Raw Coffee Stand
Seongdong-gu, Seoul • Cafe
Gwangjang, will you be in Korea? - To be honest, no. When you go to the square, don't you think of people drinking coffee and talking freely while sitting or standing in the fountain? There is also a place called a square in Korea. Seoul Plaza, Gwanghwamun Plaza, Jongmyo Plaza. What they show will be a little different from our square image. In fact, it is because the square is a very weak space in Korea. - In the West, the concept of a square has been the center of the city under the names of 'Agora of Greece', 'Forum of Rome', and 'Palace of the Middle Ages', but this is not the case in Korea. Although there was a plane called such a plaza around the Bronze Age, we did not have a place to discuss such knowledge, society, politics, economy, and culture until the Joseon Dynasty. - If you say the most similar, it can be said that it is a joke. The writing street was also a market focused on economic activity, and there were no more active stories. It also didn't have a central statue (artwork, a statue of a king), a fountain or tile. - So, why am I talking about the square today? - As I said before, there are no squares in Korea. To be honest, it is true. If you search all over the city, there will be more plazas than this, but if there is a space that can be called a plaza on social media, I can say that this is the right place. - People are standing and drinking coffee. You can also sit and drink on the chairs that are scattered around. Funny, they talk about culture and even argue about the economy and life. Even when economic activity takes place and in terms of space morphology, buildings are surrounded and not designed by one person at a time. Even more ridiculously, sidewalk blocks (tiles) are laid out. Enjoying this little square with coffee and people sitting, standing and talking freely. - It's a western square, and I think it's a very Korean-style square. At the center of it is the space "Ro Coffee Stan" introduced today. I believe you must have been feeling the synergy between the culture of coffee and the realm of space without knowing it. - As you all know this place, I hope you can feel how 'friendly' and hip place it is these days by thinking about the meaning of the square and thinking about the squares at the entrance of Europe. - Then, it's been a long time since I've had a #good_space_widely_beneficial. The next story will be brought closer to life. Have a nice day!
