“Space evolves” What is on the first floor of a department store? Of course, traditional items that symbolize luxury goods, cosmetics, and high sales will come to mind. Last summer, the Yeongdeungpo branch of Shinsegae Department Store became a hot topic when it opened the food hall on the first floor for the first time in the industry. It was a groundbreaking attempt that reflected the free space created by sharing Times Square and the Luxury Hall and the needs of nearby residents. The breaking of the formula of '1st floor = luxury' is a case that is difficult to find not only in Korea but also in other countries. Lotte Department Store, which recently opened in Dongtan, has placed an editorial shop 'Conran Shop' on the first floor, while Daejeon Shinsegae Department Store has a car showroom, and The Hyundai Seoul has collaborated with Hive to create an exhibition space. He seems to be working hard for change to the point where even a team is formed. The Yeongdeungpo branch of Lotte Department Store, which is struggling with the advent of Times Square, has continued to change its first floor since last year. The newly refurbished appearance this time was very fresh as it was naked that it was trying to target the younger generation who had been neglected in department stores. This is 'Get That Shot' that you can see right away when you go up the escalator on the first floor. As the name of the store suggests, it is a place where you have no choice but to take a photo with its colorful and spacious feeling. The dining areas decorated in each primary color are reminiscent of a part of a one-room family house, and they actually sell items such as detergents and sprays, playing the role of a living shop. The first floor of a department store where there are different things to see. It is thought that it may be a long-term strategy to improve its image by attracting young people who are future customers, but how far it can go has yet to be proven. But what is certain is that cafes, department stores, and the spaces we had prejudices are changing one by one, and those who deal with them need to go further. Rather than worrying about others, as a consumer, I just express my gratitude and respect.
