A pine tree hidden in the city “There is no good architecture on Dosan-daero.” <Cites from articles and interviews> “I reviewed various buildings on Dosan-daero, but there were no buildings that could be inspired.” This is part of an interview that Herzog (71) and Pierre de Meuron (71) gave through the press at the groundbreaking ceremony for the new building of Songeun Art Space. They are a world-class architectural duo and stilts from kindergarten. Those who gave a decisive answer to the interview talked about the space of inspiration needed for bankruptcy. That's right. An overcrowded area with commercial characteristics is bankruptcy. This street, including shrines and Apgujeong, has a strong commercial purpose. As everyone knows, it is a very expensive land, and it is an urban organization full of luxury stores. But is there no non-commercial space for the public at all? In fact, there are a lot of high-rise buildings here. In particular, when a high-rise building is built here, part of the land must be left open to the public by law. Furthermore, if the total floor area of the building exceeds 10,000 square meters, there is a bill to use some of the cost of the building for art. Looking at this law alone, it is expected that there will be many public notices in the Dosan area, Gangnam, and Apgujeong, but there is no such space here as we know from experience. There are some places where it is used a little bit, but if you say this in a critical manner, they are not 'effective' designs. Most of the high-rise buildings may be because of the design that gives the public space a strong character as a passageway into the building or is designed to be convenient for users of the building, but it is questionable whether this place actually provides an effective public space. This is part of what was conveyed in the past in Seochon's 'Brickwell[#refer to the _city_well_of_the_sky_well]'. Cities should offer a variety of experiences. Whether this is a commercial space you encounter along the way or an event in a public space that you accidentally discover, a city where these things are actively happening is likely to become a pleasant city in the end. The essence of this sentence is a variety of programs. Yet the second essence is a 'no charge experience'. Wouldn't it be fun if you had to pay for all the experiences in the city? Of course, those with money are very fun. However, those who do not have enough money to work and pay taxes in the city do not receive the benefits of the city even at the moment they walk on the sidewalk blocks made with their taxes. In that sense, the above law is a must-have law, and it must be clearly effective. If so, is there any effort to do this? If 'Brickwell' in Seochon was like that in the past, this is the new building of Songeun Art Space. Emphasize 'public notice' from the beginning. This open space leads to the building behind it. You can pass through the beautiful landscaped space. A unique terrace-type staircase is made along the spiral staircase on the first floor of the building. Although it is separated by a single thin film of glass, from the outside, the entire first floor feels like a building open to the public. There is nothing on the first floor other than the information desk. In addition, the galleries on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors of the BF1, 2nd and 3rd floors exhibit exhibitions of young artists excavated by Song Eun Altar or about this building composed of famous artists. Of course, at the beginning of the exhibition, H&M starts with an exhibition that clearly shows the process and intention of designing this building, and their past works are also on display. As a whole, this exhibition is organized around the space of this new building. I have no objection that this building, like a work of art, should definitely be the first exhibition. Because the existence of the building is what made me spend the whole day exploring this nearby city. This is also a benefit of the city. Because it evoked an eventful activity for me. Finally, large-scale art works in the city soared up to the sky, and the experience in the interior space is more artistic and public than commercial. Perhaps this building is really a 'hidden pine tree [Song-eun]'. It is because of that reason that the entire building is covered with the grain of pine trees on the concrete surface, but I want to convey that what I felt is because of the larger image behind it. Imagine what if there was a huge pine tree in the middle of the city? Wouldn't that pine tree the size of a skyscraper be the most beloved place in the city? Just as a space with a huge tree played a central role in many myths in the past, when I imagined its beautiful public and artistic appearance, the echo of the soul this building gave me echoed in my head. Now, according to their claim, it is a spring that has a good space in Seoul. These teachers are difficult to meet, but I am very grateful to be able to discuss the works of the two teachers in Korea. Even if we look at the space with a neutral attitude, leaving this inner friendship, there is no doubt that it is a building to be seen for 100 years. We introduce the space with the hope that it will become a hub of culture and art in Dosan, just like their wishes. This is Dosan's hidden pine tree #Songeun Art Space new office building. exhibition _<Herzog & de Meuron.
