Looking at the wide yard and the spiral shell, the structure of a hanok naturally comes to mind. However, when you walk inside, you feel as if you are walking in a hut on top of a Swiss mountain range. This is the impression you get when you walk through the Swiss embassy.
The embassy is often a foreign place to us. It's hidden for security reasons, and it's not a place you visit often. However, the Swiss embassy<Breathing Walls> It was revealed to us through an exhibition called The Swiss embassy is like an oasis in the middle of the Gyeonghuigungzai apartment building. You are fascinated from the moment you enter the aesthetic space that you can't see often.
The architecture composed of the combination of reinforced concrete and laminated wood composite structure approaches warmth rather than rigidity. The repeated motif of the rafters and the column structure reminds us of a hanok, but when we look into every detail, we feel the exotic Swiss atmosphere. The sea was designed to be inclined to collect rainwater, and the details of the structure to collect rainwater/refined furniture inside were borrowed from Switzerland.
It is said that a considerable amount of time was invested from design to completion of this site, which was planned in preparation for the overcrowding and high-rise building in the surrounding area. A space that expresses Korea's elevated status and Switzerland's open mind and pride, it is a space where both can feel proud.
Unfortunately, it is not normally an open space, and it is opened irregularly during embassy business or exhibitions (events). It is a space where you will be surprised by its detail and richness if you look slowly and look at the inside and outside. A space to breathe, a landscape to breathe. Let's take a walk here that connects Swiss and Korean culture and more.
