THE CRUMPET HOUSE
Itaewon / Gyeongridan-gil, Seoul • Dessert / Bakery
This is a place where you can try Crumpet, a traditional British pancake which is fermented with yeast. When traveling, you may have seen this for breakfast but never tasted it. This place attracts many foreigners for takeout. It is crispy and chewy on the outside, soft and sponge-like on the inside. It's a kind of salty flavor that goes well with various other ingredients such as jam and butter. On Sundays, you can try a special menu with smoked salmon and cream cheese on top. There are different kinds of sets with butter and jam topped crumpets, including tea like Earl Grey or English breakfast. The butter flows into the well-punctured crumpet, infusing appropriately. It's addictive with its unique texture which is soft yet chewy. I believe this would be a perfect place for breakfast if it was near home.
