Domun
Sokcho-si, Gangwon β’ Cafe
Located in Domun-dong, located at the entrance of Seoraksan National Park, Domun is a serene and bright hanok cafe. The traditional elements of hanok and the charm of a newly built hanok are blended without bias. However, the element that makes this space special is very unexpected, and the sunlight reflected from the pond located in the yard shimmers on the ceiling, adding to the warm feeling of light.
The sitting table, which occupies about half of the seats, approaches me with a bit of embarrassment, but it was a relatively quiet time when I visited, so it served as an element to add a sense of openness and warmth to this space.
The charm of a hanok, a columnar structure, is the beauty of looking at the outside from the inside, but this is not the whole of this space. In the yard, you can appreciate the foot of Mt. Seorak along with the pond mentioned above, and the process of visiting this village made of neat hanok and stone walls is also a charm. It was definitely a space experience that could be counted among the hanok cafes that emphasized traditional elements.
