The future of small parks
The redevelopment of a specific area is to remove the spatial pressure on the center of nearby major cities. Therefore, in theory, a wider, more pleasant and nature-friendly area should be formed, but in the name of efficiency, it is made more thoroughly in a grid structure, which often causes frustration.
Surprisingly, however, contrary to this perception, on the map, a significant portion of the redevelopment area is allocated as a park site. (Even Seoul, which we often think of as frustrating. It is said that there are not many large cities in the world with such a high percentage of public land, even considering the topographical characteristics such as Bukhansan Mountain and the Han River.)
Perhaps the development participants may feel a bit unfair about the perception of these citizens, but it is a natural result because small parks that were made roughly in order to simply obey the law were put everywhere. Even so, it is not possible to create a park comparable to Ilsan Lake Park or Songdo Central Park in all redevelopment areas to solve this problem, but looking at Space K located in Magok Cultural Park, there seems to be a way.
The view of this park, not far from Exit 3 of Magok Station, is precisely blocked by a square grid as if in a computer program, creating a bitter admiration. In the midst of this, the visual relaxation given by the exterior of Space K, which is made up of elegant curves, is the first step in the experience of this space. give.
What I liked the most was the structure that allowed access from the roof to the inside, and by having a circulation structure that connects the inside and the outside naturally through this one thing, three-dimensionality and vitality were doubled in the limited experience of the site.
The core identity of Scase K is the museum, but in the first place, the key to using the space is left to the visitor. Therefore, for some, it will be an art gallery and a neat cafe, and for others, it will be a walking trail and a park itself. I hope that there will be more 'small parks' such as Space K, which are composed of contents that make you want to find them again without forcing the surrounding landscape down within the limited site, and their forms will become more diverse.
