The Legendary Tower of Babel: Realization of Imagination
-
It is a legendary tower that is said to have been built by the ancient Babylonians in the Old Testament. What the author wants to focus on is the painting rather than the religious content. 'Peter Bruegel the Great', a painter from the Duchy of Brabant who lived in the 1500s. If you look at 'Tower of Babel (1563)', a well-known work among his works, you can see that it has a morphological similarity to today's space. If you look at what is transmitted in the personality, it is a story that people who speak the same language use fire, civilization develops, and when people want to reach the sky, a person called 'Yahweh' goes down to stop it, speaks differently from people, and stops building the city. am. Therefore, even in the picture, the tower of Babel remains unfinished and the picture is completed.

this act. Expressing imagination through pictures and telling stories. That's the genre of 'comic'.

Manga is a popular culture that everyone encounters at least once in their childhood. The author also worked with countless cartoons when he was young. I enjoyed comics of quite a variety of genres, from popular 'Pokemon' to 'Eunbi Kabi', 'Dooly' and 'One Piece', a legendary cartoon for people in their 20s and 30s. I was sincere enough to go to the Comic World held at BEXCO with my friends in elementary school, so I can say, 'I lived in a time when I loved comics'. That doesn't mean I don't watch cartoons at all now. While reading or writing interesting books about the world, I sometimes get new imaginations with cartoons. Moreover, the One Piece manga hasn't been finished since I was 7 years old and I still watch it these days. Moreover, even in the context of 'content', which Korea is strong in, the genre of comics is still alive and well in this era. The Korean webtoon is the predecessor of the hit work called 'My Sweet Home', a Korean content on the streaming service 'Netxlix'. In addition, people who have gained a great reputation as webtoon writers such as 'Calm Man' and 'Ju Pearl' appear in the media and work. And since the documentary deals with the history of cartoons, or there is a 'Chunggang Cartoon History Museum' in Icheon City, it cannot be dismissed as 'children's watching'. Rather, it is more relatable to explain that it is a driving force that is deeply rooted in our culture and creates a new culture.
-
In that context, isn't the story of the western hero 'Marvel' so enthusiastic among Koreans? Graphic novels, stories about Marvel, and famous cartoons of various genres are enjoyed as animations, but it is also delicious to read them at your own pace with drawings on paper.

Among the types of space, there has been a space for comics since my childhood. Commonly called neighborhood comic rooms, they are usually located in the basement or on the second floor or higher, and are spaces where you can borrow comic books and rent videos. There are memories that the atmosphere of the space is gloomy and full of the smell of cigarettes, and the famous brand 'Nolx' came out after making up for those shortcomings. However, the gesture as if they are enjoying popular culture, where the experience of watching the cartoon is wonderful, is not visible in the space. Moreover, as Internet streaming services are becoming more powerful these days, fewer people visit offline comic bookstores, and the space is gradually losing its place.
-
As a manga lover, it was only very regrettable that such experiences would disappear.
-
However, I found this place by chance and found a way to bring all of the above to life. The scene in space is simple. This bookstore is equipped with comic books and graphic novels, as well as magazines of other powerful genres. However, there are some serious books out there, but if you look around, it is interesting to see that old comic books drawn with ink on thin paper and wonderful books are in the same place. The music you hear there is also different. There are times when classical music comes out and sometimes pop comes out. More importantly, it is located on the 3rd floor that it is the cafe that is accessed the most among the spatial scenes of today's era. There is also a 'bar'. Whiskey and spirits that can be ordered at the same time as you enter. And it is a beautiful temple to see. Was the inside of the Tower of Babel like this? The appearance of the space viewed from the front as soon as you enter is beautiful. There are books and chairs to sit comfortably. In fact, the chairs look much more comfortable than the seats in a decent library.
-
There, you can see the beauty of space and comic books as you go up and round the tower. As the sky gets closer to the top floor, you can fully enjoy the light of the sun and whiskey. There is classical music and I can read any book I want.
-
'Beautiful space, new scenes, great appreciation.'
-
An imaginary space that can only be seen in legends has appeared in reality. I would like to say that it is the most beautiful space the author has visited in 22 years. The expressions on the faces of those who sit here and enjoy reading speaks for itself.
