Smallpox Memorial Hospital
New York, United States • Entertainment
Roosevelt Island comes with a spooky backstory. This hospital, also known as the Ruin, opened in 1856 and is where patients infected with smallpox were once quarantined. It now stands in ruins. It’s off-limits, but viewable from behind a fence.
Today, the interior has no roof or floor slabs. I’m hoping it will open to the public as the interior looks like a garden.
