Bahariya, one of the deserts in Egypt. It means oasis of the north in Egyptian. It is also the setting for the Little Prince we read. Characteristically, there is a clear contrast between the black desert and the white desert. It is said that the Black Desert has rather sharp rocks embedded in it, giving it a strong and sharp feeling overall. On the other hand, the stones of the White Desert are soft and gentle. It is said that it emits a mysterious light depending on the light of the sun, and when the sun goes down, the limestone embedded in it is said to emit light in a different shape. It is said that such a contrasting appearance is actually very beautiful.

White desert, water and light

Located in Yeoju, this cafe is designed with the theme of the white desert. The achromatic concrete, the white color without a single footprint, the sand, and the waterway that crosses the building and sand are beautifully sculpted. When you face the entrance of the cafe, it feels quite closed thanks to the stairs in front of you, but when you go up the stairs, light pours in with a panoramic view. In the whole building, achromatic exposed concrete was used as the main material. When light meets an achromatic color, the effect is truly amazing. A building becomes a painting paper that opens up infinite possibilities to light, and light draws a picture by adding vitality to the building in achromatic colors. As you walk through the aisle, you feel that the architectural promenade is very well organized. Although they appear to be roughly embedded here and there, the stones are fulfilling their roles as if they were in place, and the changing appearance provides a rich experience. Sometimes, it shows a panoramic view, and the restrained space comes out and you can feel the light. In the middle, what about the waterway that crosses, and the effect of separating the space between the cafe building and the sand on the waterway is sharply contrasted, thereby further emphasizing each other. The building plays the role of a cafe and the white desert acts as the identity of the building to harmonize, and the waterway plays a role of connecting and distinguishing them.

There are countless colors in the world. It is meaningless to list them one by one. The most beautiful among them is the color of the sunlight. The color of light creates a unique atmosphere, and it is abundant and divides areas, and fills in the dark places with light to create a space. A space without light is not a space. A space is created when light fills in between the empty walls. In this way, the colors of light create a three-dimensional effect, and the atmosphere is sometimes not only beautiful but also awe-inspiring.
We live among many lights. If you look at the space while being conscious of the light, the familiar place with light and shadow will coexist to create a richer space and make the space a special experience.
