Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel
1ème Ardt, France

The smallest and oldest Arc de Triomphe in Paris
🇫🇷 Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel
The Arch of Carousel was built in 1808 to commemorate the many victories of Napoleon I. It is said to have been modeled after the Arch of Triumph of Constantine the Great in Rome. However, Napoleon was not satisfied with the small size, and it is said that the Arc de Triomphe of Etoile, which we are familiar with, was built with a huge presence.
The Arc de Triomphe is located in the center of Plaza Carousel, the courtyard of the Louvre Palace, a must-visit for tourists. The detailed location is opposite the Louvre and in the middle of the road to the Tuileries Garden, so it is easy to pass. So, if you visit the Louvre and Tuileries, you can easily visit them together. Although it is smaller than other Arc de Triomphe, it is the oldest and has a classical beauty and the carvings are delicate. Interestingly, it is said that the Arc de Triomphe of Carousel - the Arc de Triomphe of Etoile in Saint-Elysees - and the Arc de Triomphe of La Defense are connected in a straight line.
