“Sophistication that grows with the passing of time”
-
The white building standing tall at the end of Itaewon Hoenamoo-gil overwhelms the eyes. The rounded corners are pushed back little by little to form a pedestal, and the unusual shape that was created is facing the world without a single window.
-
Curious about the secret shape reminiscent of a gallery or office building, I look around, but I can't find a signboard or an entrance. So, I am sure that this is a special space that no one can enter.
-
Unlike general bookstores, 'Graphic', a bookstore that stocks and sells pictures-oriented books, is the Chanel of bookstores. They do not put any books, and they mainly include rare products that are not readily available in the market, books with high collectible value, and books that reflect the author's personality.
-
The personality of 'graphics' made with a solid texture formed a maniac layer, so the space was developed so that people who visit to read books can focus only on books. For this reason, the building was closed.
-
Most streets in Seoul, including Itaewon, don't have a good view. Electric power lines, the cluttered exterior of the building, and billboards running around are rather disturbing the experience in the space. Therefore, here, the building was pushed back little by little, creating a gap in the ceiling and blocking the view of the surroundings. The light leaking through the cracks illuminates the space and at the same time casts shadows on the uneven ceramic tiles, making the space richer.
-
These ceramic tiles make the building stand out. It is natural to see the color fading as time goes by by shaping the cross section of the book. So even if time passes, it is not ugly but luxurious, and I am looking forward to seeing it dyed in a darker color in the future than it is now.

This is the 'graphic' of Itaewon.
