An Duyên Chợ Lớn - Ẩm thực Trung Hoa
Hồ Chí Minh, Vietnam • Restaurant
As a person of Chaozhou origin who does not know Chinese, Truong always has a desire to explore his roots and preserve the culture. This is the reason he is drawn to An Duyen Chợ Lớn restaurant. Lucky to have friends of Chinese descent, like Truong, our numerous visits to the restaurant gradually turned into close friendships. Those who follow An Duyen's page will often read posts sharing in-depth historical and cultural insights, narrated beautifully by my friend Truong.
An Duyen is often likened to a mini Hong Kong but is actually a representation of Chợ Lớn within Chợ Lớn. Its cuisine blends the flavors of Cantonese, Chaozhou, Fujian, Hakka, and Hainan, making its menu diverse yet memorable.
The Tri-color Steamed Egg 85k is a harmonious combination of Chicken Egg - Salted Egg - Century Egg, with a rich salted egg flavor that isn't fishy, while the century egg is creamy, especially delicious when eaten with rice.
An Duyen's Tofu with X.O Sauce 98k offers a unique taste experience with soft, creamy tofu fried to a crispy exterior, covered in a sweet and savory X.O sauce, leaving an unforgettable smoky umami taste. Dried shrimp and green onions add a fresh sweetness to the dish.
Roast Pork Steam with Hakka Style 175k - the fragrant roast pork steamed with red fermented tofu emits a special aroma that lingers in memory. The pork becomes incredibly tender, with taro also melting in your mouth, enhancing the richness.
Prawns with Cashew Nut Sauce 125k is my favorite dish; prawns fried to a crispy texture then coated in a creamy Mayonnaise sauce. The sweet shrimp meat and the crispy batter blend perfectly with the sauce, and broccoli and cashews add a new flavor.
Thanh Long Flower Soup 85k - also known as dragonfruit flower, this soup has a light sweet taste and is very effective for cough relief and lung nourishment, especially during the rainy season.
The restaurant offers a rich menu for lunch and dinner, and I plan to introduce more dishes gradually. For a light breakfast, the famous Singaporean Hainanese Kaya Toast is a must-try. The crispy toast filled with pandan-flavored kaya, dunked into a plate of silky soft-boiled egg mixed with soy sauce, creates an intriguing blend of sweet, creamy, and savory flavors.
Looking forward to having family dinners and sharing tales at An Duyen Chợ Lớn.
