Sitting next to a street-side tofu stall, the fragrant aroma wafts through the air, bringing back the childhood memories. Regardless of the Saigon weather, sunny or rainy, hot or cold, in the afternoons, the neighborhood kids and I would always look forward to the sweet call of 'Aiiiiiii want some tofu pudding?' Upon hearing it, everyone would gather a few coins given by their mothers and dash down to the court, gathering around the small tofu cart. The vendor would hand out small plastic stools for everyone to sit and eat comfortably, sometimes even standing to let the children sit. The tofu pudding, smooth and hot, with the creamy coconut milk slightly salty blending with the ginger syrup, offers an explosive taste in the mouth, mixed with chewy jelly bites that joyfully crunch.
