Piko Coffee
Hồ Chí Minh, Vietnam
Dirty Coffee is a unique drink that originated in Japan but is now very popular in Thailand. This drink simply involves coffee 'dirty' poured over solidified milk, which is typically mixed before being refrigerated. The 'Dirty' aspect refers to when hot black coffee is directly poured into a glass of solidified milk underneath, the coffee drops start to meander into the milk, creating dark swirls on a white background. The drink offers a strong coffee flavor without bitterness or an aftertaste in the throat, instead complemented by a layer of thick, sweet, creamy milk that tantalizingly bursts in the mouth.
If you want to try this flavor, you can visit Piko Coffee located at 50 Ngo Duc Ke, District 1, Saigon. The small and lovely cafe is decorated in a simple, minimalist Japanese style. My favorite part is the outdoor area, complete with a green canopy of tamarind leaves and the dreamy wall of the treasury building. There's even a Japanese style decoration area on the stairs that looks very cute.
I don't know if you've tried the Croffle yet, a delightful combination of croissant and waffle with toppings like honey, chocolate, or Ham Cheese. Fresh from the oven, the croffle smells amazing, and I prefer mine a bit crunchier, will ask the staff to customize it to my taste next time, hehe.
Additionally, Piko also serves decent drinks like Matcha Latte with rich fragrant matcha, bitter yet balanced by sweet milk. On hot Saigon days, a glass of Iced Honey Lemon Tea is perfect for quenching thirst. If you order Hand Brew, you'll even get to see the baristas brew in Japanese ceramic funnels.
