Jeju, Jeju

Space Dot One, born in the Jeju Advanced Science and Technology Park as part of a project dubbed 'The Joyful Experiment,' is the headquarters of Kakao. It was built here with the same mindset as Silicon Valley being located in San Jose, California, rather than in a major city like New York. The façade of the building takes inspiration from Jeju's oreum (volcanic cones) and the Daum logo, featuring structures that smoothly curve the angle of the 'ㄱ' character, creating five different shapes through length adjustment and rotation. This combination of structures allows for the formation of space both vertically and horizontally, resulting in a space that is unique yet familiar. Upon entering the building, one can feel the grandeur as if entering a cave, highlighted by the use of red volcanic scoria-colored exposed concrete as a finishing material. Architect Jo Min-seok envisioned the core of a creative office as 'a space for accidental encounters.' Since such encounters tend to occur in places with a high flow of people, the ground floor houses spaces accessible to tourists, including various community spaces. The building also features sculptures and outdoor spaces that catch the eye of visitors.
