The last of the summer vacation was adorned by climbing Geumsungsanseong Fortress. This place, the last battleground of the Donghak Peasant Revolution, saw many cultural assets burned and lost as the fortress fell. It's a truly sad history. Overpowered not by the Joseon's own forces but by foreign troops, this movement initiated by commoners striving to live serves as a reminder of history's harsh realities. Despite its sorrowful past, it's recommended to visit and embrace the emotions carried by this place. Walking along the fortress allows viewing of Damyang's landscape and Damyang Lake, and although not as high as the opposite Chuwolsan Mountain, it's a course worth exploring. It takes about 30 minutes to climb, making it accessible for beginners too. I wished to walk the entire fortress wall, but as the sun was setting, I ended my last vacation day with the sunset. The sky was colorful, as if by hiding behind clouds, the sunset was shyly replacing my hot and bashful heart with its flowing light. Climbing high might cater to a person's inherent desire for domination, but for me, it was Damyang's beautiful scenery and the refreshing breeze that welcomed me, granting a sense of freedom. Revisiting the path climbed with sweat, tears, and determination is beautiful. Contemplating the many paths not yet taken, it's a moment to rededicate oneself to future endeavors before returning to reality. Though not wanting to endure hardship, the author muses on the reason behind every being's capability to bloom - inspired by plants that bloom more beautifully and strongly after harsh winters, hoping the concept of sweet after the bitter becomes a strength to persist in current endeavors.
