This hotel might split opinions. Today's topic is the Mayfield Hotel near Gimpo Airport. The reason we dive straight into discussion is because of its unique story, which immediately had me swiping my card out of curiosity. According to the official website, 'in the 60s, a 100,000 square meter deserted land began as a peach orchard. After planting trees for over 20 years, a unique landscape was formed. In this scenic nature, ‘Bongraeheon’ and ‘Nakwon’ opened, offering proper Korean cuisine. And in 2002, a hotel was established, adopting a European castle architectural style. It's the first 5-star hotel funded by domestic capital, giving a feeling of being in Europe.' It's astounding to see an orchard turn into a hotel, sparking curiosity. This process of establishing a brand before the hotel seems akin to running a lodging-specialized branding agency and then HotelContents.com. Once here, it feels fresh. It makes you feel 'like you're not in our country.' The building's exterior is unique, and despite its age, it doesn't feel outdated. It's even more beautiful at night. The hotel's premises are large, especially for Seoul, providing a 'new' experience. This unique atmosphere extends to the rooms. Each room does bear marks of time, which may seem unfamiliar to those accustomed to monochrome modernity. However, its distinct material feels cozy and comfortable. Not everyone might like this sensation, leading to divided opinions. The hotel offers unique room views. Stepping out to the terrace, one can observe people having a wine party in the hotel's garden, walking around, and the iconic clock tower of Mayfield, all in one view. It would entirely feel like an overseas resort if not for the apartments in the background. When I stayed, a wine party was happening until 8-9 PM, but with windows closed, it was barely audible. There's a swimming pool and a sauna but didn't get to visit due to choosing to rest in the room. Note that there's also a convenience store on the first floor of the same building. In summary, Mayfield might be a good experience when you're bored of Seoul's city center, looking for a place to stroll, or suddenly craving a retro vibe. However, it's expected to have mixed reviews. Room type: Deluxe Suite Double, Parking: Indoor parking tower, Location: Near Gimpo Airport, Floors: 6th (top floor).
