oude
Seongsu, Seoul • Cafe
I visited the cafe 'Oude' in Seongsu-dong, which uniquely stimulates my senses among the many cafes. Located in an alley filled with repair shops, this cafe was born again as 'Oude' by remodeling an existing factory. The first thing I felt upon arrival was the texture of the building. The rough and rugged exterior walls blend with the Seongsu-dong repair shop alley, adding a sense of dimensionality to the simple form of the building. The spacious outdoor area and the large glass windows covering more than half of the building facade allow pleasant sunlight to enter, making one aware of the passage of time. One can truly understand why people line up for 30 minutes to visit this place, outshining many other cafes in Seongsu-dong. The open space seen through the windows naturally expands the area, and the elongated space maintains a relatively low density even with many people, keeping it comfortable. Additionally, the skylight drops stimulating light into the simple space, creating more dramatic scenes. Good bakery items and programs complete this space based on these spatial devices. The coffee, satisfying to many, and bakery and brunch items are pretty and tasty enough to target today's youth. Inside, a shop-in-shop operates, allowing you to sample and purchase products like perfumes and body lotions. The sense to separate spaces with a few steps instead of building walls for the shop-in-shop was especially pleasing. It was a cafe I wanted to visit again with a good companion during less crowded times. Cafe '#Oude' is my top choice for revisiting among Seongsu-dong cafes. P.S. The falling light is so beautiful, I hope those into photography could visit and capture good photos. I failed haha.
