Though it's been just over 10 months since I started wielding a camera, my simple desire to take impressive architectural photos has gradually altered my path. Roaming in search of beautiful and stunning buildings, I've physically felt the booming of 'cafe architecture.' Consequently, cafes make up a significant portion of the locations I photograph, leading to moments of confusion whether I'm on a cafe tour or there to take architectural photos. The museums and galleries I encounter provide a fresh perspective, inspiring me to view spaces in a new light and seek the reasons behind their creation through the viewfinder. _ On this occasion, I visited Savina Museum, situated in Jingwan-dong, Eunpyeong-gu, against the backdrop of Bukhansan Mountain. The museum's main concept was the fusion of architecture and art, with the choice of land for the building being paramount. The architecture had to serve as a vessel, capable of encompassing space, which in turn holds light, shadows, people, and many intangible elements. Galleries also had to encapsulate suitable artworks and pathways for visitors, all of which were considered in the design of openings, stairs, and cores. Unlike typical museums filled with white walls and straightforward lighting, the museum featured exposed concrete walls, triangularly shaped spaces, and natural lighting from skylights, fostering a stimulating environment for artists' creativity. This approach doesn't detract from the artwork but rather enhances the artistic experience. The use of exposed concrete, typically not a finishing material, gives a sense of incompletion. However, this very characteristic aligns with the museum's identity - a space completed by housing art. Thus, Savina Museum becomes a vessel that embodies art within its unfinished yet complete space.
