Shilla Stay Yeoksam
Gangnam-gu, Seoul • Hotel
The room turns into a cinema: Shilla Stay Yeoksam. Premier Deluxe Room. In the 300,000 Won range.
There are people who will relate. I tend to binge-watch trending programs all at once. I can't wait every week. It makes me anxious. Lately, with everyone talking about 'Transfer Love', I got curious.
So, I started looking for a place to both create hotel content and properly watch 'Transfer Love'. The criteria were simple.
First, it must have OTT services. Second, I wanted to watch on a big screen, not a tiny TV.
After two hours of searching—considering how hard it is to book hotels these days—I set my eyes on one place. Shilla Stay Yeoksam. I paid without hesitation.
Here’s why.
If you're someone who loves staying in a hotel to catch up on missed variety shows/dramas, this content will be helpful. Let’s get started.
1️⃣ 'Yeah, this is needed!' was my reaction.
There was this crazy package. The room turns into a cinema. They lend you a beam projector. At first, I thought it projected onto a wall. But no, the room comes with a screen.
I think it’s an idea that minimally costs but dramatically changes the room experience.
Compared to other Shilla Stay branches, the TVs are small. It feels slightly claustrophobic. But this solves the problem in one go. It's refreshing.
👉 They lend you 'The Freestyle' launched by Samsung.
I’m not tech-savvy. As soon as I received the beam projector, I was overwhelmed. Isn’t this hard to use? Oh, a new world. It adjusts the angle and everything by itself. I was shocked. It’s a mix of everything. I wanted to keep it. (Wait.. thinking about it, Shilla Stay is also a part of the Samsung group... the detail only possible by Samsung.)
Anyway, with the blackout curtains drawn and the lights out, turning on the beam and watching 'Transfer Love' felt like having a private screening room.
I’ve always argued this, but hotels are the best showrooms. I fell for the charm of this new beam projector…after.
👉 Oh, one more thing. The minibar. It's free.
I clapped three times. Something has to be in your mouth for the full experience of watching a movie or drama with the beam. Out of curiosity, I called the front desk to confirm. Turns out, the package I booked includes a free minibar. Perfect.
2️⃣ Detailed space separation
I really like this. The way to make the most out of limited space is to allow users to change the space to some extent. Shilla Stay Yeoksam has an intermediate door.
This means you can cut off the bedroom space from the corridor/bathroom coming into the room.
It helps when turning on the beam projector and blocks out noise even more.
3️⃣ Surprisingly good view
Truthfully, visiting any Shilla Stay branch offers a similar experience. From rooms to service, everything is standardized. So, I didn’t have high hopes.
But what surprised me at Shilla Stay Yeoksam was the view. Its location is good.
Not only could I see Signiel in the distance, but I could directly feel Yeoksam's unique Manhattan vibe.
Looking at Shilla Stay Yeoksam, I felt hotels are diversifying room experiences. They are making big and small attempts to offer various experiences within limited spaces.
Of course, it would be great if these considerations were incorporated from the hotel design phase, but it’s not as easy as it sounds.
Anyway, Shilla Stay turning into a showroom for Samsung products, allowing for direct and indirect experiences of the products, makes me think the hotel stay experience could become very diverse. Here’s the story of my checkout, just my personal thoughts.
