58m on the first floor? (feat. Vertical Promenade)
58m is roughly the height of about 16-18 floors when a floor of an apartment is approximately 3.2-3.5m. Have you ever seen a floor with that kind of height? Perhaps you haven't easily come across such a thing. Of course, today's space is not entirely on the first floor, but more than half of the floor area of this space, shaped like a long and wide porch, has a ceiling height of 57.5m.
While we may subconsciously feel the space, looking at such an overwhelming scene can change the dominant visual elements. Instead of the appreciation changing based on the height or the space I am in, one can be overwhelmed by the dominant visual impressions and be left with a sense of a forced smile.
Today's space is a space well-organized using such massive height.
Especially with the unique shape of the floor, the main way to ascend the floors is through a slope. The experience of slowly ascending a sloped surface is similar to a drink in a hillside village at night but with a very peculiar feeling. It is because it is indoors, very high, but there is still an end in sight with the ceiling. If you ascend past a certain height while admiring the view, you can return to the glass wall through the giant structures placed at both ends of the long and wide floor. Slowly climbing the glass wall, you can experience the height of the space through bridges at intervals. The light and transparent-looking railings are also a device to maximize this experience.
Interestingly, although this space is not a mountain, it allows you to ascend to the heights of 58m by walking slowly forward. It literally becomes a vertical promenade. The scenes shown in this space are similar to those of Korea's COEX. You can enjoy the space itself by uniquely circling up and around.
This is the 58m vertical promenade in Tokyo's <Tokyo International Forum>.
+) Through the giant structures, it showcases technology and dominates mechanical appreciation visually. Also, through the material glass, it visually shares the city transparently and achieves a dizzying and dynamic experience even within the internal experience through the glass railings. This space, dealing with Tokyo contents, resembles the 'high-tech architecture' mentioned and 'Renzo Piano's architecture'.
This space is also a work by the Uruguayan-born American spatial designer Rafael Viñoly, who is internationally famous. If you are a student studying space now, you may not know this architect very well, but those who have been enjoying spaces for quite some time may know him. This is because Viñoly worked on the expansion project of Jongno Tower in Korea in 1999. The rooftop part of Jongno Tower that can be seen now, with a giant metal piece floating like a cloud, is his work.
