Ginkakuji (Silver Pavilion) is undoubtedly the essence of Kyoto's gardens. Visitors unanimously recommend it, even over Kinkakuji (Gold Pavilion), for a reason. This location allows a glimpse into the quintessence of temple gardens, featuring well-maintained ponds and the characteristic elements of Japanese gardens such as moss, sand, and ancient trees in their most organized form. Particularly impressive is the central sand mound, which showcases a level of finesse that seems barely achievable by human hands. The dedication of the staff continually maintaining the site is palpable. Venturing further into the walking trails, visitors can climb a hill that not only offers views of the garden but also a distant sunset over Kyoto. Despite the changing seasons, Ginkakuji represents the perennial beauty of Kyoto.
