高台寺(Kōdai-ji Temple)
Kyoto Prefecture, Japan • Entertainment
The reason Kyoto's massive temple is surrounded by ropes and fences.
This was not in the plan, but seeing the Japanese people lining up, I couldn't resist following them out of curiosity.
Near Sannenzaka, as famous as Kiyomizudera, Kodaiji (Kodai-ji) Temple is mostly visited for its garden, like many other temples in Japan, but its vast scale keeps visitors around for quite some time.
Especially in spring and autumn, they hold a night opening 'light-up' event along the walking paths with bright lighting. The main attraction of the Kodaiji light-up is the laser show performed in the sand garden, accompanied by music, which is mesmerizing.
After watching the laser show, the large pond you face unfolds the reflections of the late autumn leaves in full swing, and in spring, this turns into a spectacle of cherry blossoms, making it a scene to look forward to already.
The long bamboo forest hill on the way out is enough to make up for not being able to visit Arashiyama, and the shining lights in various places remind one of hundreds of fireflies.
Furthermore, I introduced many gardens and temples in Kyoto, but I do not recommend this place to Koreans for pilgrimage.
This place is not a temple that worships Buddha but commemorates Toyotomi Hideyoshi.
Moreover, it's controversial because it was established with the support of Ieyasu, who drove out Hideyoshi's forces, by his wife Nene who opposed the Imjin War... There's a lot of historical content, but with respect to individual judgment, I'm adding this content because it might cause misunderstandings among Buddhist believers.
