A Philosophy in a Cup of Coffee from France
French specialty coffee has landed in Korea. It's the first time many have learned that France also has premium coffee brands, and now, its taste and stories can be directly experienced in Seoul, at Terre de Cafe located near Dosan Park in Apgujeong. The brand name, meaning 'land', is chosen to reflect the characteristics of the soil where coffee is grown and to offer consumers drinks made with consideration of good quality.
Upon finding the blue exterior with golden lettering in an alleyway, one is struck by a sense of simple and luxurious aesthetics. The brand's logo, three monkeys, signifies 'See no evil, hear no evil, drink good coffee.'
📍 A Harmonious Business
Since 2009, centered in Paris, France, it has been a forerunner in spreading the culture of specialty coffee. By exclusively supplying beans from exceptional coffee farms, it creates a coffee scene that respects producers, the natural environment, and customers. It fosters deep bonds with producers to promote sustainable agriculture, particularly through collaboration with coffee education schools to mature the coffee market and provide high-quality service.
📍 Breaking Conventions
While it's commonly believed that freshly roasted beans should be consumed quickly, Terre de Cafe instead offers coffee that has been aged for 1-2 months. This approach allows for a more balanced coffee, far removed from the intense and stimulating impressions of freshly roasted beans, by emphasizing a mild acidity through light roasting.
Beans are personally selected and roasted, then graded. Espresso made with beans scored above 85 points is sold in classifications like Grand Cru, Geisha, and Nanolot, intending to acquaint Korean consumers with quality beans from a French specialty coffee brand.
☕ Recommended Drinks
The Mont Blanc, featuring earl-grey infused cream, milk, and coffee, stands out for its refreshing tea aroma perfectly balanced with coffee. The Allonge, offering espresso diluted with water at a 1:1 ratio, showcases the quality of specialty beans with a milder personality than espresso alone, making it a less intimidating choice. Both filter coffee and cappuccino are of commendable quality and worth trying. If looking for a new brand with great coffee, Terre de Cafe is worth paying attention to.
