Sannenzaka
Kyoto Prefecture, Japan • Entertainment
Why is there a pleasant feeling amidst the messiness? On the way down from Kiyomizu-dera, you'll pass through Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka, steeped in the superstition that falling here means two or three years of bad luck, respectively. When I first visited, my young self believed this and walked cautiously, but in recent years, my pragmatism has returned, and I strolled down without a second thought. It's not the superstition but the captivating scenery that truly catches one’s attention. Sannenzaka, rumored to rob three years of luck, has become a place I wish to return to after three years. Contrary to the chaotic appearance in photographs, it was a place that was pleasant at every turn. Although most tourists will pass through because of Kiyomizu-dera, it's a must-visit place in Kyoto regardless.
