Caffè Gilli
Florence, Italy • Cafe
During my travels in Italy, I've visited numerous cafes. With each visit, I've established a favorite cafe in each city. Among them, Caffe Gilli in Florence stands out the most. Crossing into Italy, my routine involves having breakfast at least twice; once at my accommodation and then again at a nearby cafe, enjoying a cappuccino and cornetto. Caffe Gilli played a significant role in this routine. My first visit was accidental, staying near Piazza della Repubblica where Gilli is located. I was told to explore each cafe at the corners of the square, and Gilli was my first stop. If Rome introduced me to espresso, Gilli indulged my love for cappuccino. Caffe Gilli, operating since 1733 and at its current location since 1917, is Florence's oldest cafe. It's the perfect spot for a morning cappuccino and cornetto, an espresso, or a quick cocktail. Choosing where to enjoy your coffee, inside at the bar or outside at the table, affects the price significantly. The seasonal shop windows and the welcoming baristas add charm to the bustling environment. Caffe Gilli is where I enjoyed the quintessential cappuccino, especially memorable during the Christmas season.
