% Arabica (IFC)
Central and Western District, Hong Kong Island • Cafe
% Arabica is known in Korea as '응 커피', a nickname derived from its resemblance to the Korean character for 'yes' (%). Originating from Hong Kong, this coffee brand was founded by Japanese Kenneth Shoji. After losing his home in the 2011 Fukushima earthquake, he moved to Hong Kong and opened the first % Arabica in 2013. The following year, he established the flagship store in Kyoto, which serves as the company's headquarters. The brand is known for owning a coffee farm in Hawaii and using espresso machines made in Seattle. The stores maintain a minimalistic Japanese interior design, and they are famous for avoiding the use of plastic cups and opting for paper cups instead. The most popular menu items at % Arabica are the Cafe Latte and the Spanish Latte, well-known for their perfect blend of espresso and milk, especially the beautiful latte art. The ifc store is said to be the second store that opened in Hong Kong after Tsim Sha Tsui.
