Anthracite Coffee Yeonhui

A space filled with existence and thought, Journey through darkness and light, The interior space is unified in monochrome. The atmosphere, as if steeped in gentle darkness, calmly draws down even the weight of the air. The passage connecting the first and second floors is shrouded in silence and darkness. One walks the path guided by the light leaking from the entrance and second-floor spaces, a section that metaphorically represents the journey of life, reaching the end after a long and dark tunnel. A deep message is encapsulated within the short distance and time. Unified Presence, Seated at the second-floor table, one gazes through the large windows at the streets of Yeonhui-dong. The moving silhouettes of people and the outside scenery are captured in the view like a video artwork. Within the space of Anthracite, individuals with distinct personalities are depicted as black silhouettes. Only when viewed against the light can their glowing front seem be confirmed. The Identity of Objects, There exist two types of seating, defined by straight and curved lines. The visual contrast and variation are born from these angular differences. The simple design of the chairs is repetitively arranged along the long tables, forming a rhythm. Imagining the Margin, A space where only the act of 'sitting' is ensured, seats are placed alone within a vast space. There is no place to lean against, and both the ceiling and the floors by the windows are left as wide margins. The long table has no divisions in the middle. One must move from one end of the space to the other around the table. The minimal furnishing creates the maximum circulation. Anthracite Yeonhui branch lets one walk, look, and sit to imagine, about the intention of a space that induces margins and steps. Through 'the minimum of being,' it leads to 'the maximum of imagination.' Essential elements required for using the space are provided, leaving the rest to imagination and abstraction. Visitors become the subjects filling the space's margins and the visually notable entities. It is a space that subtly reveals one's existence while leading into the world of thought.
