A literary space that conveys emotions
The highest point of a mountain ridge can be called a summit, and in Jeju dialect, this becomes 'Orommar.' There is a space in Aewol, Jeju, with a similar sentiment to 'oreum' incorporating a natural meaning. Café Orommar, a place where the exchange of language through handwriting and the vast landscape remained as good memories, is examined.
- Walking around the outdoor yard that meets the sky around the building, one finds the leisure of the morning. The higher the ceiling and the larger the given area, the more satisfaction we gain from momentarily occupying that space. This is a point where we feel mental fulfillment even before entering the space.
Orommar gently guides our gaze into the aesthetics of space. The color of the walls, reminiscent of a sandy beach, and the dark wood offer a unified look. Reducing unnecessary visual elements and installing large windows has expanded the breadth of nature appreciation.
📍Special Ordering Method
You need to look at the menu and write down your desired menu on paper by hand. In an era where typing on a keyboard is commonplace, writing with a pencil can feel like a special experience. Going through the brief process of writing down letters on paper distinctly marks the space experience.
The coffee menu has four names for each season; in summer, it offers a literary sentiment in a cup called 'Blue Sailboat.' The taste was decent.
📍The Value of Literature
The works of poet Moon Tae-jun are on sale in several volumes. Everyone is free to read the books, so it would be nice to immerse oneself into the beautiful language. Notebooks are also available to jot down your favorite poems or phrases, encouraging visitors to leave their own sentences.
📍Openness
The stairs leading to the rooftop demonstrate excellent visual sense. The stairs bending over the thinly spread water surface capture the gaze. Thanks to the walls being opened up, it is also accessible from the outdoor yard. One can experience a sense of freedom and open structure.
- Exploring the space resonates with good architectural design and literary language. Above all, it is a heartfelt recommendation for those who enjoy books and writing.
