The Rocks Square

The starting point of Sydney travel. Behind the Rocks Travelers Center, a visit to Playfair St., which is closed to vehicular traffic, reveals The Rocks Square. Although not large, it's a symbolic space showcasing Sydney's past to present. Notable is the large monument 'First Impression' in the middle of the square, the Rocks Center, and The Rocks Market, which is held every weekend. ‘First Impression’ is a sculpture capturing the figures of the first settlers, prisoners, soldiers, and immigrant families, with its impressive bas-relief on three sides, giving the illusion of people emerging from the stone. The experience of sipping coffee while imagining Sydney's olden times, surrounded by old buildings, has its own charm.
