Kioi Seido
Tokyo, Japan • Religious Establishment
Designed by Hiroshi Naito, the 【Kiyoiseido】is called a 'box of light with no function'. Since my visit to the Toraya Akasaka store earlier this year, I've been fascinated by Hiroshi Naito's architecture. I had decided to end this year's architectural pilgrimage here. Upon entering, what is displayed is the roots of the 'Miracle Pine', the only one left after 70,000 pine trees were swept away by the tsunami in the Great East Japan Earthquake of 3.11. It seemed to fundamentally speak of both the joys and sorrows of Rikuzentakata.
