Have you ever gone out for drinks in Japan Street? I know this place that serves Japanese food and the Yakitori here is marinated so deeply it perfectly suits our taste buds. Ever tried the cocktails with unique flavors like 'soy milk-sakura-matcha'? Absolutely addictive, I tell you. On some nights, when Saigon turns chilly all of a sudden, I crave for some grilled skewers or 'drinking' a bit with a few friends, feels warm and joyful. Matsuki is an Izakaya type pub - a term derived from i (to stay) and sakaya (sake shop), a kind of small pub like in the West but serves easy-to-order, easy-to-eat together, and wallet-friendly dishes, usually famous Japanese appetizers. The first snack to try is the Octopus with Mustard Mix 55k, Fresh Tofu with Wasabi Sauce 35k, Cheese with Miso Sauce served with crackers 45k, Chicken and Soft Tofu Salad 78k. These are fresh, fittingly flavored dishes, should be paired with a glass of sweet rose plum wine too for perfection. But for someone who likes bold flavors, I really like the plate of 7 Yakitori skewers 141k here. Compared to other places with lightly marinated flavors, Matsuki's is soaked in sauce, sweet and rich, but having a cold beer on the side is just perfect. My sister likes cheese so we ordered Baked Potato & Cheese Salad 68k, Grilled Blue Lobster with Cheese 89k. Potatoes were a bit too creamy for me, but the lobster was better, meaty and crispy sweet filled in a spicy sweet cream sauce. For these dishes, you should order a glass of Sakura Gari Chyuhai with red ginger to reduce the greasiness, sis. Tried Grilled Rice Balls for the first time 65k found it interesting, crispy outside soft inside, the rice with salty dried fish eaten with a light clear sauce underneath. Of course, can't miss sashimi, fried chicken wings too. I tell you, went with 4 people but eyes bigger than the stomach so couldn't finish it all, hehe.
