The Peak Lookout
Central and Western District, Hong Kong Island • Restaurant
The Peak Lookout, offering delicious dishes while enjoying the view of Tai Ping Shan, is located in a historic building designated as a Grade II historic site. Originally, this place was created as a rest stop for British engineers during the construction of the Peak Tram in 1888 and was used as a rest stop for British officials' chairmen from 1902 upon the completion of the Peak Tram. The place transformed into an outdoor garden cafe accessible to the public in 1947. Until then, the 'Lugard Road' at the top of Tai Ping Shan was an exclusive walkway for Westerners. Then, as Hong Kongese were allowed access, a need for a public rest stop arose. It has recently been called 'The Peak Lookout', previously operated under the name Old Peak Cafe. With architectural features such as sloped roofs, stone walls, arched windows, and stone chimneys, 'The Peak Lookout' draws inspiration from the architectural style of British country houses from the late Victorian and Edwardian eras. Combo platter, tandoori burger, and signature burger are popular, amongst other meals, drinks, and alcohol served here. It is located right in front of 'The Peak Observatory'.
