M+
Yau Tsim Mong District, Kowloon • Culture
One of the places I've always wanted to visit in Hong Kong. Opened in November 2021, the M+ Museum is located in the West Kowloon Cultural District and is claimed to be a museum of contemporary visual culture. Designed by Herzog & de Meuron, well known for South Korea's 'SongEun', the museum's design is clean, breezy, and of a tremendous scale. True to its name, meaning 'more than a museum', M+ is not just a museum but also a cultural space where everyone can enjoy a wide range of activities including a theater, concert hall, cafe, and restaurant. Especially, the open view of Hong Kong Island from the museum building itself is a healing experience, and there are many people picnicking in the waterfront park next to the museum. A special exhibition of Japanese installation artist Yayoi Kusama is being held until May 14, 2023, featuring a large and diverse number of works in an impressive display. M+ Museum is a place I want to visit again and spend a long time leisurely exploring.
