SUMADORI-BAR SHIBUYA
Tokyo, Japan • Bar

The most memorable spot from my Tokyo trip. There's nothing like it back home. I visited out of curiosity after hearing that Asahi launched a non-alcoholic cocktail bar. With the number of people who don't drink alcohol increasing in Japan, Asahi innovatively created this non-alcoholic cocktail bar. Unlike typical bars, it's located on Shibuya's main street. Entering feels like stepping into a real bar, complete with a bartender and bar tables, yet the use of wood and the lighting give it a café-like ambiance. It's designed for people who know how to drink but dislike alcohol, and for those who can't drink but enjoy the social aspect of drinking spaces. Many Japanese people were seen chatting and taking photos, much like in a café (some were even on blind dates). They offer a selection of over 100 cocktails, with alcohol contents of 0%, 0.5%, and 3%, providing a matrix to facilitate ordering and reduce indecision. More photos and posts are available on my blog (1.11).
