Located just a short walk from São Bento station, you'll find the specialty coffee cafe ‘calma’ situated on the first floor of the historic ‘Ateneu Comercial do Porto’ building, which has existed since the late 19th century. The renovation was conducted over about 5 months to preserve as much of the original design of the building as possible. “The decoration brightens the room and enhances beauty. At the same time, the combination of Ateneu's tradition and modernity offers a welcoming atmosphere.” It was a place for a quick respite from the pouring rain in Porto, taking fast strides to avoid getting wet. Passing through an un-cafe-like luxurious hall and entering the door, one finds Porto's locals comfortably spending their time, each in their own world. The luxurious and semi-transparent windows allow a subtle brightness to enter, clearly conveying the intended ambiance of the space. Among the cafes visited in Porto, this place had the best coffee.
