Suwon Museum of Art
Suwon-si, Gyeonggi • Culture
It's a walk from the Fatboy Ground restaurant where we had lunch to the Suwon City Art Museum. There was an exhibition I wanted to see and the admission fee was affordable, so I went without hesitation. For general adults, the admission fee is KRW 4,000, and Suwon citizens can enter at a 25% discounted rate. While very affordable, the quality and number of exhibitions are incomparable to the admission fee. According to the introduction on the Suwon City Art Museum's website, it features a monochrome concept design with a mix of white and black against a grey concrete background. It's new to see the harmony between the palace and the museum's architecture as it is located opposite Hwaseong Haenggung Palace. The first floor has information, exhibition rooms, Pony Jeong Hall, and a cafe, and the second floor houses education rooms, a library, and Na Hye-seok Hall. It was a pleasant surprise to discover Na Hye-seok Hall and see an additional exhibit. Moreover, there's a rooftop garden on the second floor, which offers a beautiful view of Haenggung-dong across the street and the sunset view beyond Haenggung-dong is truly magnificent. I highly recommend visiting the rooftop garden when you visit the museum.
