No need to envy Japan's pudding - Japan is known as a dessert country, and when you visit, you end up buying pudding from a convenience store at least once. The pudding, familiar yet unfamiliar, seems ubiquitous but is somewhat hard to find in Korea. The reason Koreans might be familiar with pudding could be due to its frequent appearances as Crayon Shin-chan's favorite snack in the manga series, rather than direct consumption experience. Although some brands in Korea do offer pudding, until recently, the quantity of dessert relative to price was a significant criterion, and puddings, being small in quantity, were inevitably overlooked. Pudding becomes a regular feature in content like 'Top 5 Foods to Eat at a Japanese Convenience Store' due to its novelty and rareness. However, now there's no need to envy Japan's pudding anymore. - In the vicinity of Ahyeon-dong, Purring, a little store opened by Korean and Japanese owners wishing to showcase the flavor of pudding, distinguishes itself. Unlike recent trendy cafes, it gained popularity and a fan base through online stores such as Idus and W Concept. The owner's skill, brought from Japan, ensures quality on par with any pudding shop in Japan. The small pudding served in glass jars follows the appearance seen in a few stores aiming for traditional Japanese pudding. Still, the 'real' pudding taste, based on vanilla beans, offers a much deeper aftertaste and incomparable quality. Pudding varieties include custard, matcha, and chocolate, and it also offers the Taiwanese pudding 'annindofu,' which is still rare in Korea, attracting much attention. Due to its quick word-of-mouth popularity, it often sells out before closing time. So, it's wise to hurry if you're planning a visit. - Now, it seems you can leave pudding out of your Japanese convenience store shopping basket. Whenever I crave pudding, I think I'll take the subway to this place.
