Deoksugung Palace Jungmyeongjeon
Jung-gu, Seoul • Entertainment
This place is the office space where King Gojong enjoyed coffee for the last time, according to legend. It was built in 1897 as a western-style single-story building called Suokheon and was used as the royal library until it burnt down in 1901. Later, it was rebuilt as a two-story brick building by a Russian architect, Apanasy Seredin-Sabatin. Suokheon became the residence of King Gojong after the Gyeongungung Palace fire in 1904, changing its use to the emperor's office and its name to 'Jungmyeongjeon'. [It also burned down in 1925, leaving only the outer walls]
