Inwangsan Shelter in the woods
Jongno-gu, Seoul • Culture
Inwangsan Forest Rest Area: A Swiss in Seoul. After the 1.21 Incident in 1968, military outposts were installed on Bukaksan and Inwangsan, leading to a long-standing restriction on citizen access. Over time, the number of these outposts was gradually reduced, and by 2018, 18 out of 20 guard posts installed along the Hanyangdoseong walls were demolished. Two were preserved to document the history of demolition and restoration. The soldiers' living spaces have been reconfigured into 'rest areas for citizens'. It's a lovely spot to enjoy a cup of coffee while looking out at the snowy view or to take a break with a book. 'It turns the walker's gaze towards nature' - Inwangsan Forest Rest Area. *You can see it if you go up the stairs opposite the Dusup Post Bookstore! (Yes, that's the place you're wondering about). Be careful as there are many stairs and it can be slippery on snowy days. Who wants to go see it together? Address: 4-36 Cheongun-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul.
