Located in Gungjeong-dong
(in blue house), Jongno-gu,
Seoul, South Korea, it is the place
where the seven concubines who
gave birth to Joseon kings but
failed to become queens were
enshrined.
In other words, Chilgung was built
for private filial piety to the birth
mother, apart from filial piety to
the queen, who is the legal
mother. Originally, it was
scattered throughout
Hanseong. However, after King
Yeongjo built Yuksanggung,
a shrine dedicated to his mother,
Sookbin Choi, Yeon-ho-gung,
Jeo-gyeong-gung,Dae-been-gung,
Seon-hee-gung,
and Kyung-woo-gung moved in
1908, and Deok-an-ggung was
built in 1929.
As a result, it was named Chilgung
because it consists of seven
palaces. The famous plaque of
Jang Hee-bin is also here.
