Makejip Samgakji Branch
Yongsan Station, Seoul • Restaurant
I visited the trendy Samgakji area and stopped by Makaezip, a place known for its raw fish dishes. Despite making a reservation on the same day due to a hasty search, the place turned out to be incredibly popular. We ordered raw fish slices, live octopus, and a spicy rockfish stew. The raw fish dish, with its base of perilla leaves, cucumber, and pear, came heaped like a mountain and was sliced so finely that the bones were unnoticeable. It is the best menu item there. The live octopus was plump and plentiful, and the size of the rockfish was surprisingly large. Another table ordered rockfish sweet and sour, and I found myself glancing over at it repeatedly, thinking I’d like to try it next time. Feeling somewhat unsatisfied, we also ordered seafood ramen and an extra serving of noodles for the spicy stew. The seafood ramen was superb, with al dente noodles and a broth full of the scent of the sea. The price is not cheap, but it would seem like a holy site for seafood lovers.
