Hangeul
Mapo-gu, Seoul • Cafe
Starting from the phrase 'Where to go,' I stumbled upon this place and it has become my favorite spot in Yeonnam-dong. A cafe opened by a bartender husband and a barista wife, Hangeul, embodies their tastes in the most unique way by naming it after the wife's name. This place was created through the collaboration of experts carefully selected by the owner, incorporating everything from the interior to the ceiling's traditional Korean painting, glasses, and playlist made exclusively for this location. The touches of those who know the owner can be felt throughout the cafe, representing them in every sense. The cafe, named after the Korean alphabet, opened its doors on Hangeul Day, coinciding with the owner's birthday. Spending a considerable amount of time here with companions, forgetting our next destination, the cafe brings together elements from Japan, Europe, and even forests, seas, and construction sites. Visiting this place makes us realize that our excitement responds more to people than to sensational things. It is both a cafe and an owner, an owner and a cafe, Hangeul.
