Ippodo Tea Kyoto Main Store
Kyoto Prefecture, Japan • Cafe
A historic teahouse in Kyoto that opened in 1717, named Omiya. It serves a wide range of teas in a space divided into a sales area and a teahouse where customers can enjoy tea. The space is impressive with many tea jars and old chests adorning the left wall, storing precious old teas. This is a welcoming space for tea lovers, filled with items reflecting its history, almost like a museum. The teas handled by Ippodo are all prestigious teas from Kyoto, carefully maintained to ensure a consistent taste despite the sensitivity of tea leaves to climate and conditions. Matcha latte and the professionally frothy soft foam give you a sense of the professional techniques of the locals. Omiya is not only in Kyoto but also in department stores in Osaka and Tokyo, and there's a store in New York. Importantly, the cafe has Wi-Fi. Matcha latte is sold at 880, Umonnomukashi (thick matcha) at 1650, and light tea at 1320. Open daily from 10:00 to 17:00. Google reviews give it a 4.5 out of more than 1600 reviews.
