Fu-ka
Kyoto Prefecture, Japan • Restaurant
The small Western-style restaurant, Fukagin Kakukoji, run by an elderly couple below Ginkakuji, only opens for lunch and closes early once ingredients run out. The chef, a grandfather, makes all the dishes himself, so it takes some time for the menu items to be prepared, but the quality of the food, full of care and effort, is very satisfying. The most popular menu item is the omurice. The incredibly soft eggs topped with a rich demi-glace sauce and mustard butter enhance the flavor. The butter melts, releasing a mouthwatering aroma. The fluffy, melting texture of the eggs and the demi-glace sauce, whose flavor is doubled by the melting butter, are both artistic. The chunks of meat are also wonderfully tender. A perfect omurice with nothing amiss! When in Japan, you cannot miss Japanese-style Western food, specifically the Japanese adaptation of Western food into what is known in Korea as 'gyo-yang-sik'. Omurice, an idea that came from topping rice with an omelet, is a dish original to Japan. Since Japan is the origin, it's a must-try there! There are many other places with delicious omurice, so it's highly recommended to try omurice when visiting Japan! Fluffy and melting omurice 1300, Tonkatsu curry 1400.
