Changgyeonggung Greenhouse
Jongno-gu, Seoul • Entertainment
The reopening of Changgyeonggung Palace Greenhouse at night. Built in 1909 during the Korean Empire, Changgyeonggung Palace Greenhouse is Korea's first Western-style botanical garden greenhouse. It was designed by a Japanese architect and constructed by a French company. For this reason, it features Renaissance-style fountains and maze-like gardens, yet it is decorated with the Royal Court of Joseon's emblem, the five-petal flower, creating a unique atmosphere. Initially, its refined and beautiful appearance, despite being built over a century ago, is impressive. However, knowing the background can leave a bittersweet feeling. It was constructed after demolishing parts of Changgyeonggung Palace by the Japanese to undermine the authority of the Korean palaces. Nevertheless, as a modern cultural heritage reflecting the times, it seems worthwhile to visit the greenhouse and remember the painful past of our ancestors. ✔ Address: 185 Changgyonggung-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul ✔ Instagram: @cgglove_1483 *Closed every Monday / Open from 09:00 to 20:45.
