Cornwall Park, situated south of Auckland's city center, is a lush haven boasting centuries-old tree-lined paths, well-maintained walkways, picnic spots, various amenities, and freely roaming sheep and horses. The park includes One Tree Hill and Stardome Observatory, bustling with picnickers on weekends. Donated to the nation by then Governor Sir John Logan Campbell in honor of the visiting Duke and Duchess of Cornwall, it offers a slice of New Zealand's bucolic abundance in the heart of the city. One Tree Hill, a volcanic peak among Auckland's 50, features a maunga summit at 183 meters with the largest existing pa and a monument to Sir John Logan Campbell, dubbed the 'father of Auckland'. Originally named for a solitary Totara tree, which was felled one night in 1876, only its stump remains. Subsequently, a pine tree was planted, but after several complications, it too disappeared post-1999. The journey to the summit and the sheep grazing along the walkways are as breathtaking as the view from the top.
