ARARIO GALLERY SEOUL
Jongno-gu, Seoul • Culture
The annex next to the Arario Museum in Wonseo-dong, Jongno-gu, has been newly renovated and reopened as 'Arario Gallery Seoul'. Designed by Japanese architect Jo Nagasaka, known for Blue Bottle and Jeju Arario Museum's space design, it serves as an exhibition space from the basement first floor to the sixth floor. The exterior, made with black bricks similar to the neighboring Arario Museum designed by architect Kim Swoo-geon, gives a sense of unity with the existing building, while the interior boasts a bright and clean space with white marble floors and walls, contrasting the exterior. The intentional exposure of materials such as studs, plywood, bricks, and the original building's concrete walls throughout various spaces, including the stairwell, adds an impressive touch, and designing the exhibition space's information desk with those exposed materials adds to the fun. During the exhibition period, the 5th-floor VIP zone is also opened, offering a view of Changdeokgung Palace beyond the glass. As an opening exhibition, a show called 'Romantic Irony' featuring five young artists will be held until March 18.
