Kyoto Prefectural Office - Former Main Building
Kyoto Prefecture, Japan • Entertainment
In the central garden of the Kyoto Prefectural Office’s old main building, built in 1904 and used as the office building for Kyoto Prefecture until 1971, stands a large cherry blossom tree. It is a cherry blossom tree that is a descendant of the Sidarezakura (Weeping Cherry) first planted in Maruyama Park, which has been significantly lessened in lushness due to the effects of a typhoon in 2018. In addition to this central Sidarezakura, a few other cherry blossom trees can be seen in the garden. Not only the cherry blossoms, but the building itself, built in the Neo-Renaissance style, is also worth seeing. Since it is a relatively unknown space to tourists, it is relatively quiet, and the view of the cherry blossoms through the window frames is also a sight to behold, making it a place worth visiting at least once.
